Non-formal education can also be an important career step, specialists say
Non-formal education in Latvia offers broad opportunities, but not everyone uses them or does so effectively. Specialists say the myth that it cannot raise qualifications is false.

Non-formal education in Latvia, meaning learning outside the official education system, offers broad opportunities, but not all residents take advantage of them or do so effectively. Specialists in the field said this on the Latvian Radio programme "Kā labāk dzīvot" (How to Live Better).
A common myth
One widespread belief is that non-formal education does not allow people to improve their qualifications. The specialists stressed that this is not true: knowledge gained this way can also become an important step in professional development.
Know the goal
Before choosing a course, it is important to be clear about what one wants to achieve. The aim may be to gain new knowledge, or it may be to obtain a document confirming a qualification. The choice of the most suitable type of learning depends on this.
