A munition fell near the Palanca checkpoint on the border between Moldova and Ukraine on the morning of October 5, ricocheting off a parked scheduled bus and into the border control booth, according to Moldovan outlet TV8. A border police officer suffered a minor injury as a result.

Following the incident, the "Palanca–Maiaky–Udobne" border crossing was temporarily shut down, disrupting traffic through the area. Vehicles that were headed to Palanca are now being directed to use the Tudora crossing instead.

Moldovan media noted that the munition fell during a period of intensified Russian strikes on Ukraine's border regions, though it remains unclear which side the ordnance originated from.

The incident underscores how the war in Ukraine continues to pose risks to neighboring countries such as Moldova, whose territory near the southern Ukrainian border has repeatedly come close to the fallout of Russian attacks.
