Moser finishes fifth in pole vault at World U20 Championships

Estonian pole vaulter Allika Inkeri Moser has finished fifth at the World U20 Athletics Championships taking place in Oregon. The 18-year-old cleared 4.10 m and 4.25 m in the final, but failed her first two attempts at 4.35 m. She then moved her third attempt up to 4.40 m, but was unable to clear that height either.

Moser set a personal best of 4.52 m last year. This winter season she has cleared 4.40 m twice, while over the summer she has managed 4.35 m on several occasions, but has not yet gone higher.

The world title went to Czech athlete Nikola Krutilova, who cleared 4.45 m. Personal bests earned medals for Ukraine's Olha Belchenko (4.40 m) and American Kaylee Neire (4.35 m).

Other Estonian results

In the decathlon, Tristan Konso placed 10th with 7,538 points, while Andre Juusson finished 22nd with 7,085 points. The world decathlon title went to Sweden's Liam Bellou Da Silva, who scored 8,112 points and was the only competitor to surpass the 8,000-point mark.

In men's discus qualifying, Sten-Eerik Iir secured his place in the final, clearing the 60.50 m qualifying standard on his first attempt with a throw of 61.03 m.

Estonia's women's 4x100 m relay team — Mia Ott, Mia Mireia Uusorg, Pia Lauren Matsalu and Ellen Ingrid Aadamsoo — did not reach the final but set a new national U20 record of 45.64 seconds, placing 16th. The previous record of 45.71 seconds had been set in July in Voru at the Baltic youth championships.
