Russian drone explodes in Moldova; Romania scrambles fighter jets

A Russian drone that had been launched toward Ukraine crashed and exploded in Moldova on Wednesday, the country's Interior Ministry reported.

The unmanned aircraft came down in open terrain near a village in the Anenii Noi district, located roughly 20 kilometers from the border with Ukraine's Odesa region.

Romania responds

Around the same time, Romania's Ministry of National Defence reported that its air force had scrambled two fighter jets after the military detected an unidentified aerial target moving through Ukrainian territory east of Izmail, near the river that forms the border with Romania.

The ministry stated that no violations of Romanian airspace were recorded during the incident.

The episode fits a broader pattern in which drones or debris from the war between Russia and Ukraine have periodically landed in neighboring countries, including Moldova and Romania, raising ongoing concerns about safety in border regions.
