'Legends Rogaine' returns to Mercendarbe with familiar winners

More than five hundred orienteering and active-lifestyle enthusiasts gathered on August 15 in Mercendarbe near Baldone for the latest round of the popular 'Legends Rogaine' event. The competition center was set up at Mercendarbe manor, with routes covering previously little-used terrain including Riekstu Hill, the town of Baldone, and the Rozites area. The day featured sunny, warm weather.

Longer distances

In the six-hour category, Zigmunds Bibers and Alberts Jasans, who had skipped the previous round in July, took first place with 187 points. Valdis Cunka and Janis Kemers finished second, while the best mixed team, featuring Karlis Lauders and his wife Rita, placed third. Among women, Madara Apsalone and Aleksandra Fjodorova finished first.

In the four-hour category, Lauris Veidemanis and Niks Patriks Ummers collected the most points (118) and also won the corporate challenge. Peteris Grivins and Henrijs Lerme took second place, followed by Eriks Bogdanovs and Edijs Tropins in third.

MTB, mixed and solo categories

In the three-hour mountain bike orienteering category, Martins Linde won, ahead of Andris Sarksna and Raitis Muiznieks. Among women, Dina Zobena took first place, while Ieva Godina edged out Inese Kaukis for second place in a tight tie-break decided by time on course.

In the two-hour category, the mixed team 'Kengakasti' (Viesturs Raipulis and Kristine Kalnina) won with 47 points, while among men's teams Kalvis Bricis and Aldis Grasmanis took first in an extremely close contest where several teams were separated by just one point.

In the two-hour solo rogaine, Rubens Sulcs won for the second consecutive round with 64 points, with Kaspars Berins taking second. Among women, Daina Saltuma led with 52 points, followed by Dace Zumberga in second.
