Latvian shooters test new SOLO discipline at European U23 Championships; Tukiša takes 10th
Anete Tukiša placed 10th in the new SOLO event at the European U23 Shooting Championships in Wrocław, while other Latvians competed across rifle and shotgun disciplines.
On 5 August, Latvian shooters took part in the new SOLO discipline at the European U23 Shooting Championships in Wrocław, Poland, competing in both rifle and shotgun events. The championship is the first unified European U23 competition to bring together rifle and shotgun shooters from across Europe.
Anete Tukiša delivered the best result of the day for Latvia. In the women's SOLO event in 10-metre air rifle, she advanced to the second qualification round and finished 10th with 48 points. The final for gold was contested by Serbian shooters Andjelija Stevanoviča and Anastasija Živkoviča.
In the men's competition in the same discipline, Miķelis Ercmanis and Linards Dvarišķis represented Latvia. In the first qualification stage, Ercmanis took 27th place with 16 points, while Dvarišķis was 28th with 15 points in a field of 31 competitors; neither advanced to the second stage.
In men's shotgun SOLO, Raiens Lukass Kukutis successfully made it through the first elimination round but lost in the round of 16, finishing 13th. Ričards Zorovs ended the competition in 31st place. The European U23 champion in this event was Andreas Pontikis of Cyprus. In the women's field, Santa Upelniece did not get past the first qualification round.
The European U23 Championship in Wrocław continues until 12 August, with Latvian shooters still scheduled to compete in several individual and team events.
