Kosovo's 'Groundhog Day' politics: No government after three elections
Kosovo has been without a functioning government for 16 months despite three elections. PM Kurti's party won again with 43% but needs a coalition, and the country also lacks a president.

The path of the EU and NATO in the Western Balkans has encountered another setback, as Kosovo remains without a functioning government after three elections in less than 16 months. The latest vote, held this week, produced a result similar to the previous two: the party of incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti won 43% of the vote, a clear victory but insufficient to govern alone without a coalition partner.
Adding to the political deadlock, Kosovo also has no sitting president. Vjosa Osmani, who served as president from 2021 to April of this year, failed to secure a second mandate, reportedly due to a falling out with the prime minister.
