Kallas Proposes New Russia Sanctions After Massive Strikes on Kyiv
Following a deadly Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv that killed at least 18 people, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced she would propose new sanctions against Russian military producers involved in the assault.

The European Union's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said on Thursday she would propose sanctions against Russian military producers responsible for the massive attack on Kyiv earlier that morning. In a post on X, Kallas stated that she will target entities supporting Russia's military-industrial complex in response to the strikes. The announcement came after Russia launched a large-scale wave of missiles and drones, primarily aimed at the Ukrainian capital, killing at least 18 people and wounding over 80, according to local authorities.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Moscow fired 74 missiles and more than 490 attack drones, also striking Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv. Kallas emphasized that the EU will continue to raise the cost for Russia until it understands it cannot win the war. The proposed sanctions are intended to hit the military producers that enabled the attack.
This move is part of the EU's ongoing effort to pressure Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. Previous sanctions have targeted numerous sectors and individuals, but this package focuses on those directly involved in manufacturing weapons used in the recent strikes. Ukrainian officials have welcomed the initiative but continue to urge the EU to adopt even stronger measures, including a full embargo on Russian energy imports.
