Estonian Reform Party faction leader urges those considering leaving not to delay
After the ruling coalition lost its majority in the Riigikogu, Reform Party faction leader Anne Pillak has urged party members weighing an exit not to postpone their decision. She does not rule out further departures following Meelis Kiili's exit.
Estonia's governing coalition has lost its majority in the Riigikogu after Kalev Stoicescu left Eesti 200 and Meelis Kiili left the Reform Party. Anne Pillak, leader of the Reform Party's parliamentary faction, said this autumn the change is not expected to seriously affect the parliament's work.
Speaking to broadcaster ETV, Pillak said the coalition will need to search even harder for common ground with other factions on important and necessary matters, though she believes this will not be especially difficult on major thematic issues.
Tension within the party as well
The situation has also created tension inside the Reform Party itself. Pillak did not rule out that others could follow Kiili in leaving.
She said that if anyone else feels uncomfortable in the party, it would be better to make that decision now rather than delay it until late autumn, as that would be fairer to everyone involved.
