Google Launches Gemini 4 Argon, Its Most Powerful AI Model Yet

Alphabet has unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, a new AI model tuned for cybersecurity tasks and initially available only to select partners. The company says the model outperforms rivals across several AI benchmarks.

Alphabet, Google's parent company, has released a new artificial intelligence model called Gemini 4 Argon, capable of handling tasks ranging from coding and research to writing. According to the company, however, cybersecurity is where Argon particularly shines.

For now, the model is being rolled out only to a select group of Google's cybersecurity partners through its Fairwind Program, the company's security initiative. Argon was trained specifically for defensive cyber work, and Google says it can autonomously find, validate, and patch critical software vulnerabilities.

Used internally too

Google also highlights Argon's strength in coding and engineering, noting that its own staff are already using the model for daily tasks such as debugging and codebase migrations. The model is also said to be adept at parsing visual content, including long videos and charts.

In a blog post published Wednesday, Google said Argon is built to sustain deep reasoning across complex, long-horizon workflows and is fundamentally changing how the company works and builds products.

Competition in the AI race

Leading AI companies have been rushing to release increasingly powerful models, racing to outdo one another even as they warn about the potential risks AI poses. OpenAI recently released a model called Astra, which it called its best yet, while Anthropic made similar claims earlier this year about its model, Fable.

In its blog post, Google claims Argon scored significantly higher than OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's Fable and Opus models across a range of AI benchmarks. The company cites Vals, an AI benchmarking platform, where Argon currently tops the company's model index.

Google has recently found success with Gemini after once being seen as trailing in the AI race. In August, the company announced its app had surpassed a billion monthly users, a figure that puts it on par with OpenAI, whose ChatGPT recently reached the same milestone.
