Cell broadcast alerts on election day will also cover polling station closures
If an airspace threat is detected on October 3 during Latvia's parliamentary election, the cell broadcast warning sent to residents in the affected area will also include updates on polling station closures and reopenings.

On October 3, the day Latvia holds elections for the 15th Saeima, authorities say that if an airspace threat arises, the emergency cell broadcast alert sent to people in the affected area will be expanded to include information about the status of local polling stations.
Should such a threat be confirmed, the alert would notify residents that polling stations in the affected territory are being closed for the duration of the danger.
Once the threat has passed, the same cell broadcast system would be used to send a follow-up message informing residents that polling stations have reopened and voting can resume.
Cell broadcast technology allows authorities to instantly reach all mobile phone users within a defined geographic area without sending individual text messages, making it a standard tool for urgent public safety notifications, including airspace and security threats.
