Ford recalls nearly 97,000 Mustang Mach-E electric cars over rear axle defect
US carmaker Ford is recalling 96,840 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles worldwide because a rear differential defect can cause loss of drive or unintended rolling in Park. The replacement parts are expected only in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Carmaker Ford is recalling 96,840 Mustang Mach-E electric cars worldwide because of a safety risk in the design of the rear axle differential. The recall covers vehicles built between March 2020 and December 2023. In Germany, nearly 6,600 cars are affected.
The defect
According to reports, the differential's pinion shaft can break. This may cause a loss of drive power while driving, and it can also let the car move unexpectedly while in Park ("P") if the parking brake is not engaged. Such situations raise the risk of road accidents.
No accidents linked to the defect have been recorded so far.
Fix and advice for owners
Ford plans to replace the rear axle differential, but the necessary parts are currently unavailable. Their availability is forecast for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Until the repair, owners are advised to always apply the parking brake, even when the car is in Park.
