European Athletics Championships: Marleen Mülla qualifies for pole vault final

At the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Estonian athlete Marleen Mülla cleared a height of 4 metres 40 centimetres in the pole vault qualification round, securing her place in the tournament final.

Mülla cleared 4.10, 4.25 and 4.40 metres on her first attempts. She then tried to clear 4.50 metres on her third attempt but was unsuccessful. The qualifying standard had been set at 4.55 metres, but the top 12 competitors were already determined once athletes cleared 4.50, so no further jumps were required. Seven athletes managed to clear that height, while Mülla shared eighth place in qualification.

Other competitors

Slovenian vaulter Tina Šutej, bronze medallist at last year's World Championships and at the European Championships two years ago, failed to reach the final. She cleared 4.25 and 4.40 metres on her second attempts, finishing 13th in qualification.

Estonian athlete Allika Inkeri Moser, who competed at the U20 World Championships in the United States last week and arrived in Birmingham on Monday, cleared the opening height of 4.10 metres on her first attempt. However, she failed to clear 4.25 metres and shared 25th place.

The women's pole vault final will begin on Thursday at 21:50.
