Disney D23 2026: New looks at X-Men, Avengers: Doomsday and Star Wars projects
Disney's annual D23 fan event revealed the cast for its upcoming X-Men film, a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and a teaser for Star Wars: Ahsoka season two. The event also brought news on the VisionQuest series and Kingdom Hearts IV.
At its annual D23 fan expo in Anaheim, California, Disney unveiled a range of updates on upcoming Marvel and Star Wars projects.
X-Men and Marvel news
Marvel officially revealed the cast for its untitled upcoming X-Men film, set to hit theaters on May 5th, 2028. Alongside previously announced Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, the film will star Kit Connor as Scott Summers (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier (Professor X), Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Inde Navarrette as Rogue. Adam Driver will play their adversary, Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Mister Sinister.
D23 also brought a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer centered on Robert Downey Jr.'s take on Doom. Meanwhile, the first trailer for VisionQuest reunited actors Paul Bettany and James Spader; the Disney Plus series, which closes out a trilogy that began with WandaVision, premieres October 14th.
Star Wars updates
Attendees also got the first trailer for season two of Star Wars: Ahsoka, due to premiere January 20th, 2027. The footage showed a darker, witchcraft-tinged corner of the Star Wars galaxy, with Grand Admiral Thrawn threatening to plunge the galaxy back into large-scale conflict following the Empire's fall.
Actor Ryan Gosling took the stage to tease Star Wars: Starfighter, though the footage shown was exclusive to those in the room and hasn't been officially released online. The film, also starring Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre and Mia Goth, arrives in theaters May 28th, 2027.
Other announcements
The expo also marked 25 years of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Separately, at a recent Nintendo Direct, Square Enix teased Kingdom Hearts IV, coming to Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC without a release date yet. A bundle featuring the series' first three games will launch for Switch 2 on October 8th.
