Delfi Survey: How Readers Are Preparing for a More Expensive Heating Season
Most readers surveyed by the Latvian news portal Delfi expect heating to cost more this year. They are insulating homes, cutting costs and trying to secure warmth early.

A reader survey by the Latvian news portal Delfi shows that most respondents expect a more expensive heating season than last year. Participants described how they are preparing for the cold, and many have already begun cutting expected costs.
Why a pricier winter is expected
Heat supply companies have announced tariff increases, and price tags at pellet retailers also show higher costs. Readers are following international events, which at least for now do not point to stability in the oil and gas market. Neighbouring countries are also approaching winter with some anxiety, hoping for a mild one.
What people are doing
Respondents named a range of steps: buying a thicker blanket, dressing warmer, staying in one room instead of several, insulating the house, making advance payments, reviewing expense items, changing habits and regulating indoor heat more carefully.
Readers who expect lower or similar bills to last year say they fixed tariffs early, stocked firewood in good time, including from their own forest, replaced a heating boiler or insulated their home. One reader hopes for a milder winter than the previous one, while another, speaking of payments, said: "How much more can there be?"
