Plans change: Cirkins to stay with national team for Montenegro match too
Latvia national football team newcomer Roberts Cirkins will now also play in the third match of this international window, against Montenegro, after plans initially called for him to feature in only two games.
Latvia's national football team has changed its original plans regarding new player Roberts Cirkins. It had initially been decided that the 24-year-old would only take part in two matches during this international window – against Armenia and Cyprus – to avoid overloading the debutant. However, the plan has now changed, and Cirkins will also help the team in a third match.
Cirkins made his debut for the Latvian national team in a Nations League match against Armenia. The following day, he helped the team earn a point against Cyprus. On Friday, he is expected to play his third match for the national team, likely the last of this window.
The player grew up in England and previously represented England's youth national teams before later deciding to play for Latvia's senior side. At club level, Cirkins plays for Queens Park Rangers, a team in England's second-tier league.
Latvia will face Montenegro on Friday, October 2, at 19:00 at Skonto Stadium. After the match, Cirkins is expected to return to his club.
