Cirkins cleared to play for Latvia against Montenegro as well
The Latvian Football Federation has reached an agreement with defender Deniss Cirkins' club QPR allowing him to play in Friday's Nations League match against Montenegro. Latvia currently sits last in its group after two rounds.
The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) has announced that defender Deniss Cirkins will be available to help the men's national football team in Friday's upcoming UEFA Nations League Group C match against Montenegro in Riga.
Initially, Cirkins was only expected to feature in Latvia's first two Nations League matches. However, the LFF managed to reach an agreement with his club, England's second-tier side Queens Park Rangers (QPR), for him to also take part in the third match.
Cirkins had the option to represent either Ireland or England internationally, but he chose Latvia and made his debut for the national team last week.
Latvia's standing in the group
In the first Group C match, Latvia lost 0:2 away to Armenia, then drew 0:0 at home against Cyprus on Monday. After two rounds, Montenegro leads the group with six points, Armenia has three, while Cyprus and Latvia each have one point.
Following the match against Montenegro, Latvia will travel to face Cyprus again on October 5. Two more matches are scheduled for mid-November — away against Montenegro and at home against Armenia.
