Road repairs continue at 52 sites across Latvia - some detours add up to 45 minutes
As of late September, repair works are still underway on 52 sections of Latvia's state roads, including ten bridges, with some stretches adding 40-45 minutes to travel time. Latvian State Roads is urging drivers to check current traffic restrictions before setting out.
Although summer has ended, Latvia's road repair season is not yet over. According to Latvian State Roads, work is still ongoing at 52 sections of state roads, including ten bridge sites, as of late September. Drivers passing through these areas should expect slower traffic and, in some cases, significant delays.
Longest delays expected
The slowest traffic currently is on the Tīnūži-Koknese road, in the section between the Kranciems quarry and the "Avārijas brigādes parks" site, where a temporary traffic light has been installed along with speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h. Crossing this section can take around 45 minutes.
A similarly long delay awaits drivers on the Ilmāja-Priekule-Lithuanian border road between Priekule and the border, where five traffic-light-controlled sections have been set up, adding roughly 40 minutes to the journey.
Delays on major highways too
Notable restrictions remain in place on several major highways as well. On the Vidzeme highway between Sigulda and Augšlīgatne, drivers should allow about 25 minutes to pass through the repair zone. On the Daugavpils highway between Kalnišķi and Ļūbaste, and on the Jelgava highway between the Lielvircava turnoff and the Lithuanian border, delays are somewhat shorter, at around 20 minutes.
An extra 30 minutes may be needed when driving from Valdemārpils to Rude, and a similar delay applies between Litene and Balvi. Repair work also continues on the Bauska-Aizkraukle, Cēsis-Vecpiebalga-Madona, Rīga HPP-Jaunjelgava, Jaunkalsnava-Lubāna, and Viļāni-Preiļi-Špoģi roads.
Roads closed in Kurzeme
On Friday, from 8:00 to 19:00, two local roads in Kalvene parish - Rudbārži-Kalvene and Turlava-Valtaiķi-Embūte - will be fully closed for rally training runs. Drivers will be able to take detours via local roads or the Liepāja highway.
