Basketball player Klavs Cavars could make his first appearance for Rigas Zelli tonight. In the joint Latvian-Estonian basketball league, the Riga club visits Tartu University, with tip-off at 19:00. Club manager Ugis Pinete said so in a chat produced by the LV Basketbols podcast.

Cavars is a 30-year-old center for the Latvian national team. He spent the previous season abroad, in Azerbaijan, Poland and Belarus. Before the new campaign he returned to Latvia and joined Rigas Zelli, who won bronze medals last season. An injury has so far delayed his debut for the team.

The team's start to the season

Zelli have opened their Latvian-Estonian league season with three wins in a row and sit third in the standings with a 100% record. Tartu University, with two wins and one loss, are fourth.

In the ULEB European Cup the team has had mixed results: they beat Italy's Tortona at home, but lost away at Rostock.

Other players

Toms Skuja has also recently returned from injury. He played in the game against Ogre and in the European Cup match in Rostock.

The Tartu game is one of this week's fixtures in the Latvian-Estonian league. No other games are scheduled for 9 October, but several more will be played on 10 and 11 October, including Bigbank/Kalev against Ventspils and Liepaja against Ekselences Juniori.
