The Yangwang U9 Xtreme, an electric supercar from the luxury brand of Chinese carmaker BYD, has reached 503.17 km/h in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is the first production car to exceed the 500 km/h mark, and the result is presented as a new world speed record. The attempt took place on a closed section of the E11 motorway, with driver Marc Basseng at the wheel.

The new figure is 6.95 km/h higher than the model's own previous record of 496.22 km/h, set in September 2025 at the ATP Papenburg test track in Germany.

Other achievements

The U9 Xtreme had already stood out at the Nürburgring in Germany, where it lapped the circuit in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds. That made it the first production electric supercar to complete the track in under seven minutes.

Technical specifications

The car has a 1,200-volt high-voltage platform and four electric motors. Together they produce 2,220 kW, or roughly 2,977 horsepower. The motors can reach 30,000 revolutions per minute, and the torque distribution system adjusts up to 100 times per second.

The tyres, braking system, cooling and aerodynamics have all been specially adapted for such speeds. The U9 Xtreme differs from the standard model through upgraded aerodynamic equipment: a large carbon-fibre front splitter, a rear diffuser and a prominent rear wing.

Limited production

Production of this supercar will be strictly limited. BYD plans to build no more than 30 units worldwide.
