Former Probation Service Official Sues Over Alleged Emotional Abuse at Work
A former employee of the State Probation Service, who left his position in May 2024 after working there for just under two years, has filed a lawsuit against the agency alleging emotional abuse and workplace bullying.

Employment history
The man began working at the State Probation Service in September 2022. He stayed in the position for just under two years, leaving voluntarily in May 2024 by submitting his resignation.
Legal action
The end of his employment was not the end of the matter. Shortly after resigning, the former official initiated court proceedings against the State Probation Service. At the heart of his claim are allegations that during his time at the agency he experienced emotional abuse and so-called bossing — a form of systematic psychological pressure exerted by management.
What bossing means
Bossing is generally understood as prolonged, targeted psychological pressure or humiliation directed at subordinates by their superiors in the workplace. Such cases often become public only after the employment relationship has ended, when former staff decide to pursue their rights through the courts.
Context
The State Probation Service is a government agency responsible for supervising probation and enforcing non-custodial sentences in Latvia. This case draws attention to the broader question of workplace culture within public administration institutions and how employees respond to alleged misconduct by management. The outcome of the lawsuit is not yet known.
