Trailer finally released for the four-hour Elon Musk documentary
Director Alex Gibney's documentary 'Musk' is heading to theaters with a critical look at the billionaire, and Musk himself has threatened to sue over it.
A new documentary about Elon Musk is coming to theaters this October, and a trailer has now arrived to confirm it. Simply titled 'Musk,' the film runs nearly four hours, including a ten-minute intermission built into its runtime.
The documentary comes from director Alex Gibney, known for previous films tackling the Enron collapse, the Church of Scientology, entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, and America's torture practices during the War on Terror. Given that track record, 'Musk' is not expected to be a flattering portrait.
A critical lens
The film promises to dig into several of Musk's most criticized moves, including his leadership of the DOGE agency and his prominent role within the MAGA movement. It will also examine his tendency to over-promise on future technological breakthroughs, along with mishaps involving drivers who relied on Tesla's self-driving technology.
One central thread will address claims that Musk used his Starlink satellite network to help tilt the 2024 presidential election toward Donald Trump. That theory long circulated on the fringes of the internet before gaining traction after Musk's ex-girlfriend, Ashley St. Clair, shared text messages in which he reportedly hinted at exploiting an 'anomaly in the matrix' to sway the outcome. No real evidence supports that such manipulation was possible, but the messages are attributed to him.
Musk's response
Elon Musk himself is not pleased with the film and has threatened to sue Gibney for defamation. On X, he called the director a bitter old man who lost the plot long ago and described him as lacking integrity.
The documentary opens in select theaters on October 9, followed by a wider release on October 16.
