The town of Bauska is preparing for its annual Zemgale Great Market, set to take place on September 12 starting at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Square. The same evening, Bauska's old town will host the sixth edition of 'Ciere,' an unhurried evening walk combining lighting installations and storytelling. The information was shared with the outlet by the Bauska Culture Centre.

How to apply

Craftspeople, home producers, designers and other vendors wishing to take part in the Zemgale Great Market can submit an application form until noon on August 20. The Bauska Culture Centre notes that participants will be selected through a competitive process in line with the trading regulations.

Eligible applicants include artists, designers, craftspeople and home producers, as well as creators and sellers of brands and souvenirs representing Bauska. Sellers of niche food products and catering businesses are also invited to apply. Sellers of industrially manufactured goods are generally not eligible, except where their products feature original design elements.

History of 'Ciere'

The first 'Ciere' event in Bauska's old town took place in September 2021, illuminating eight buildings that once housed former manufacturing enterprises. In 2022, visitors were invited to learn about notable figures connected to the old town, while the 2023 edition was dedicated to local legends. In 2024, participants explored the brilliance of literature, from poetry to hip-hop, and last year's event highlighted the town's musical heritage through sound and light.
