Apple and Audi Alumni's Luxury Moon Buggy-Inspired EV: Amble One

The Amble One, a configurable luxury EV inspired by the lunar rover, is open for preorders from $25,000, with deliveries expected in 2028. Designed by former Apple and Audi employees, it targets families seeking a fun, open second car.

A new electric vehicle startup, founded by alumni of Apple and Audi, has unveiled its first model: the Amble One. This luxury EV takes design cues from the moon buggy and offers a high degree of configurability. Rear seats fold flat, a canvas weatherproofing option is in development, and urban buyers can opt for a lockable front box instead of the standard basket. Hard doors are not planned.

A second platform, the Amble Two, is already in design with a targeted 2029 release. It will move closer to conventional cars with removable doors, a lower roofline, and a hardtop. The company's strategy is not to replace a family's primary car, but the second one. “Most families do not need twice that $50,000 BYD or Tesla,” says co-founder Roose. “The second vehicle for families could be something that is designed for purpose, designed for shorter trips—and that can be much simpler, way more fun, way more open, and also more affordable.”

Other automakers are also targeting this segment, such as the Citroen Ami with its 28 mph top speed and 46-mile range. Stellantis recently announced capacity expansion for its supermini EVs. However, Amble may have an edge: according to Roose, the company has 12 signed clients, over 500 vehicles committed, and more than 10 million euros in signed revenue. Orders have come from luxury properties including Amangiri in Utah, Mustique Island, Six Senses Les Bordes in the Loire Valley, and Uva's Na Praia in Comporta.

First hospitality deliveries of the Amble One begin in mid-2027, while consumer preorders for Europe and the US are now open, with deliveries in 2028. Pricing starts at $25,000. The company aims to build its brand as a premium player before moving into the urban micromobility market, a different approach from many startups that have failed.
