Anthropic Launches Claude Tag, an 'Always-On' AI Colleague for Slack
Anthropic introduces Claude Tag in research preview, a persistent AI teammate that lives in Slack, learning from channels and proactively assisting with tasks.

Anthropic has unveiled Claude Tag, a new feature currently in research preview that brings an always-on AI assistant directly into Slack. Designed for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, the tool allows users to tag @Claude for insights, task assignment, and proactive collaboration.
Unlike previous integrations—such as direct messages or channel mentions—Claude Tag maintains persistent context and memory. According to Anthropic, “as Claude follows along with its channel, it learns ever more about the work.” With appropriate permissions, it can also automatically gather facts from other channels across the organization.
Each channel gets a single Claude identity, so everyone can see the AI’s activity and continue conversations seamlessly. System administrators control access to tools, information, and channels, ensuring that a Claude set for legal work cannot seed memories into an engineering channel.
When assigned a task, Claude Tag breaks it down into stages, works through them using available tools, and responds in a Slack thread with results. It also features an ambient mode where it proactively joins conversations to provide updates, flag relevant information across the organization, or follow up on forgotten threads. Anthropic says this makes the experience feel like “working with a real colleague—one that can produce work in public view, with far greater context and understanding than before.”
The emphasis on contextual understanding aligns with broader industry trends. Microsoft’s Copilot and Work IQ, Snowflake and Databricks’ platforms, and Glean’s intelligence layer all aim to capture tacit organizational knowledge for AI agents. Anthropic’s Claude Tag represents another step toward deeply integrated, context-aware enterprise AI.
