England after Nations League games: Kane record and a strong attack

England captain Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton's record of 125 caps in a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic. After four Nations League games, head coach Thomas Tuchel has plenty of options in attack and midfield.

England captain Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton's record of 125 caps in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Czech Republic. The 33-year-old continues to extend his record as England's all-time top scorer, with 91 goals, 38 more than second-placed Wayne Rooney, who scored 53 in 120 games. It now seems only a matter of time before Kane becomes the first player to reach 100 England goals.

A potent attacking quartet

Head coach Thomas Tuchel can be especially pleased with his attacking four. Kane leads the line. Anthony Gordon, since moving from Newcastle to Barcelona, scored in all three Nations League games against Spain, the Czech Republic and Croatia. Bukayo Saka, who was hampered by an Achilles injury at the World Cup, looks rejuvenated and scored twice in Croatia. Behind them is 23-year-old Jude Bellingham, England's player of the year. Morgan Rogers offers further options, and 18-year-old Rio Ngumoha is seen as a contender for years to come.

Midfield depth

The main disappointment was an injury to Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott after an outstanding debut in the 7-0 win in Croatia. The thigh problem could keep him out for two months, Bournemouth fear. Tuchel said Declan Rice is still a fixed point in his team, but that other players are impressing and the competition is ongoing. Elliot Anderson, Myles Lewis-Skelly and James Garner, whom the coach called England's "mini Valverde", have also featured. Kobbie Mainoo withdrew injured, while Adam Wharton has not yet forced his way into Tuchel's plans.

Alexander-Arnold's return and left-back

Tuchel recalled Trent Alexander-Arnold, who missed the World Cup squad. The 27-year-old made his first start under Tuchel against the Czech Republic in Prague, setting up Gordon's opener, and at Wembley forced a fine save from the goalkeeper with a free-kick. Meanwhile Newcastle's Lewis Hall stepped in for three games for the injured Nico O'Reilly and impressed. His left-flank partnership with Gordon looked natural, and the 22-year-old has just signed a new contract until 2031.
