Luīze Monta Remese, who grew up in the town of Aizkraukle, now combines studies at two universities with a demanding public role. She is studying medicine at Rīga Stradiņš University while simultaneously pursuing economics at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga). Alongside her studies, she also heads the Latvian Student Union (LSA), which represents student interests nationwide.

Although Luīze has lived in Riga for several years now, she remains closely tied to Aizkraukle, where her parents still live and which she describes as her favorite city. She travels there to see them several times a month.

A decision made as a teenager

After finishing ninth grade in Aizkraukle, Luīze decided at the age of fifteen to move to Riga on her own to continue her education at Āgenskalns State Gymnasium. She says it was a deliberate choice she made herself and has never regretted.

Luīze notes that she had enjoyed school in Aizkraukle and had good teachers there, but Riga brought a different, stricter routine that taught her real discipline. It was during this period that she began living independently and first seriously started thinking about her future career.

Given her packed schedule juggling two universities, public duties and daily responsibilities, Luīze says her most reliable companion is often simply her calendar, which makes room for trips to see her parents, everyday errands and cooking meals.
