Zendaya wears €1,200 "tabi" shoes in Paris after criticism over greeting Brigitte Macron

US actress Zendaya was spotted shopping at a French concept store after Paris Fashion Week, wearing a vintage Prada coat and Maison Margiela tabi shoes. A week earlier she had drawn criticism on social media for not standing up while greeting France's first lady.

American actress Zendaya, known for her role in the "Spider-Man" films, was seen heading to the Merci concept store in Paris after the end of Paris Fashion Week. It happened a few days after her greeting with Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, was widely discussed on social media.

Outfit and footwear

Accompanied by her longtime assistant Darnell Appling, the actress wore light jeans and a white top. She added a 1999 vintage Prada coat valued at around €2,400 and a small Louis Vuitton bag with the brand's monogram pattern.

The shoes, priced at about €1,200, drew the most attention: Maison Margiela "tabi" shoes with an open heel. Tabi footwear has a split toe that separates the big toe from the others, which is why it is nicknamed "goat hoof" shoes. It provokes mixed reactions in the fashion world. Zendaya has worn such shoes for years; at the 2024 Met Gala she chose custom-made tabi high heels created as a collaboration between Christian Louboutin and Maison Margiela.

Criticism over the greeting

Earlier last week, at a Louis Vuitton show at the Louvre, the actress greeted Brigitte Macron from her front-row seat without standing up. In the video, she is first talking to another guest, then smiles, shakes Macron's hand and says: "Hello, nice to meet you."

A user on the platform X posted the clip, and the post received 27,000 likes. Some commenters argued that etiquette requires standing, especially for a country's first lady and the owner of the brand one represents. Others noted that Zendaya is neither a French citizen nor a diplomatic representative, so strict protocol should not be expected of her. One commenter suggested she had not expected the meeting and was caught off guard. Users also noticed that she did not stand when greeted by Bernard Arnault, head of luxury goods group LVMH.
