Zelenskyy Awards Hero of Ukraine to Nine Servicemen and Police Officers, Eight Posthumously
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on June 28 awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to nine military and police personnel, eight of them posthumously.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees on June 28 conferring the title of Hero of Ukraine on nine defenders. Eight of them received the honor posthumously.
The awardees are:
- Ihor Hryban – Senior Soldier (posthumous);
- Arsen Yurchenko – Senior Lieutenant (posthumous);
- Vladyslav Shapoval – Captain (posthumous);
- Serhiy Matviyevsky – Lieutenant (posthumous);
- Oleh Hrama – Captain (posthumous);
- Andriy Markiv – Lieutenant (posthumous);
- Oleksandr Kuraleh – Police Major (posthumous);
- Roman Zelenskyy – Senior Police Lieutenant (posthumous).
The only recipient alive is Police Senior Sergeant Yuriy Illiashenko, who was awarded the Order of the Gold Star.
The decrees state that the awards were given "for personal courage and heroism shown in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as selfless service to the Ukrainian people."
