Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that after a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, there is a real prospect to end the war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Zelenskyy made the remark following the call, the details of which have not been disclosed. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Trump on his election victory and discussed the war in Ukraine during a separate conversation. These diplomatic contacts occur against the backdrop of continued Russian military operations. On the night of July 5, Russian forces launched 125 attack drones and four missiles of various types against Ukrainian targets. The extent of casualties and damage from this attack is not yet clear. In addition, the death toll from a previous Russian shelling of Kyiv on July 2 has risen to at least 31, with numbers expected to climb. Zelenskyy's statement about a realistic chance to end the war aligns with his previous calls for peace, but Russia's ongoing assaults indicate that the situation remains tense. The international community is closely watching these developments, hoping for a diplomatic breakthrough.
