Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia is preparing a fresh large-scale strike on Ukraine's energy facilities. He made the statement in his evening address, citing intelligence data. According to the president, bridges over the Dnipro River and civilian infrastructure could also be targeted. The warning comes as Ukraine faces another difficult winter, with Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure continuing.
Defence and request for aid
Zelensky stressed that the air force and the army are preparing to repel the attack, but said the situation "is not easy". In his words, Ukraine needs interceptor missiles for its Patriot air defence systems. The president noted that every agreement matters and every day of deliveries counts, and he firmly urged partner countries not to postpone shipments.
Diplomacy and the Madrid visit
The attacks on energy infrastructure continue despite renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war. On Thursday, Zelensky attended a summit of Latin American countries in Madrid, the Spanish capital. There he called on regional leaders to help Ukraine obtain urgently needed equipment to repair energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes.
The source does not provide further details on when or on what scale the attack might take place.
