Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić that the United States has agreed to provide Kyiv with interceptor missiles for air defense systems every month.

Zelensky noted that the US is the primary country whose manufacturers produce the relevant missiles and systems. According to him, an agreement has been reached for monthly deliveries, though the volume supplied will not be enough. He did not specify the exact quantity expected.

The Ukrainian leader also did not clarify when exactly this agreement was reached. Several media outlets interpreted his remarks as referring specifically to missiles for Patriot systems, whose shortage he has repeatedly mentioned. However, Zelensky did not explicitly state which missiles were being discussed.

Visit to Serbia

Zelensky arrived in Serbia on August 7 — the first official visit by a Ukrainian president to the country since he took office.

Trump's remarks

On August 6, US President Donald Trump, responding to a reporter's question on whether Washington would provide Kyiv with additional Patriot interceptor missiles and long-range missiles it urgently needs, said that the US itself also needs missiles.

Trump also accused the previous administration of Joe Biden of depleting US ammunition stockpiles through military aid to Kyiv. He said Biden had handed Zelensky $300 billion worth of ammunition, and that when he himself took office, stocks had been full but were later largely given away. Trump said the stockpiles are now being rebuilt using powerful, high-quality munitions that would otherwise not be used.
