Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly congratulated Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs on the strong performance of his party, the 'United List,' in the 15th Saeima elections. In his statement, Zelensky said the decisive result reflects the trust of the Latvian people in Kulbergs' leadership and his vision for the country's future.
The Ukrainian leader also highlighted the assistance Latvia has provided to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, describing it as unwavering friendship and support. Zelensky expressed hope for further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and wished Kulbergs success in serving the Latvian people.
Election results
The 'United List' received 35.3% of the vote, translating into 41 of the 100 seats in the Saeima. This is the highest result ever achieved by a single political force in Saeima elections since the restoration of Latvia's independence.
International attention
Foreign media have been covering the election outcome partly in the context of Latvia's ongoing support for Ukraine. Latvia shares a border with Russia and has been one of Kyiv's active supporters throughout the full-scale war. At the same time, domestic political debate in Latvia has included calls to reduce assistance to Ukraine and redirect more resources toward the country's own needs.
