Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Sunday that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had attacked two oil refineries on Russian territory. The announcement was made via Telegram.
The first target was the Slaviansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region, located approximately 300 kilometers from the front line. The second refinery is situated in the Yaroslavl region, about 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Following the Ukrainian drone strike, a large fire erupted at the Slaviansk facility.
Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed that one person was killed in the attack. Additionally, several residential houses, a power line, and a gas pipeline were damaged. Published images and videos show a massive blaze at the refinery.
Zelensky emphasized that these operations weaken Russia's ability to continue the war. "Each of our long-range sanctions reduces the resources of the Russian war machine and is another step towards peace," he said. The president also stated that Ukraine will continue to respond to Russian attacks.
The Slaviansk oil refinery is not large, but it is located near the illegally annexed Crimean peninsula. Ukraine has previously hit this facility multiple times.
