Zaporizhzhia hit by Russian missiles and drones; at least nine injured
A Russian missile and drone attack on Zaporizhzhia injured at least nine people and damaged civilian buildings. Emergency services continue rescue operations.

Firefighters battled blazes across Zaporizhzhia after a Russian missile and drone attack struck civilian neighbourhoods on Wednesday, injuring at least nine people. Regional authorities said the strike involved at least two ballistic missiles and several attack drones targeting a residential area in the city centre. Warehouses, commercial buildings, parked vehicles and nearby homes were damaged.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, said the number of injured continued to rise as rescue operations progressed. Air raid alerts had been in effect for more than two hours before the strikes hit late in the morning, with two waves of explosions reported minutes apart. Emergency services evacuated casualties and searched debris for trapped individuals.
Ukraine's National Police confirmed firefighters remained at the scene extinguishing fires and assisting residents. Located near the front line, Zaporizhzhia has faced repeated Russian attacks since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. The latest strike raised renewed concerns about the city's proximity to infrastructure linked to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, heightening fears for both civilian and nuclear safety.
