Xiaomi, Oppo, Motorola and Samsung Prepare to Take On Apple's Foldable iPhone Duo
Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, reaches stores on October 23, and rivals already sell similar models. Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo and Motorola compete on lower weight, bigger batteries or lower prices.

Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, goes on sale on October 23, with pre-orders opening a week earlier. Rival manufacturers, including China's Xiaomi and Oppo as well as Samsung and Motorola, have been preparing the foldable market for some time, and several now offer models in a similar, passport-like shape.
Xiaomi and Samsung
The Xiaomi 18 Fold arrived just days before the iPhone Duo was unveiled. Both phones have a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.4-inch outer screen. The Xiaomi weighs 219 grams against the Apple device's 254 grams and has three rear cameras. Its price starts at 10,999 yuan (about $1,640), and for now it is sold only in China.
In the US, the Duo's main rival is likely to be Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8, which has 7.6-inch and 5.5-inch screens and two rear cameras. It starts at $1,900, which is $100 below the iPhone Duo's starting price. Engadget's review gave it 8.9 out of 10.
Oppo and Motorola
Oppo's Find N6 follows a more conventional foldable design, with a 6.62-inch outer display and an 8.12-inch inner one. It is 8.93 mm thick when closed, compared with 11.3 mm for the iPhone Duo. It has a 6,000mAh battery, 80W wired charging, IP59 certification and a 200-megapixel main camera. It starts at 9,999 yuan (about $1,490). It is aimed at the Asian market, though a global model exists that is not officially sold in the US.
The Motorola Razr Fold is available in US stores from $1,900. Its outer screen measures 6.6 inches and the inner one 8.1 inches, with peak brightness of 6,000 nits against 3,000 nits for the iPhone Duo. It also has a 6,000mAh battery, 80W charging, a triple-camera system and stylus support, with the stylus costing an extra $100.
Apple, for its part, is leaning on software: iOS 27 is optimized for the foldable form factor, with animations when switching between displays and various usage modes.
