Xbox players share how they got GTA 6 without paying full price
Reddit users have described earning enough Microsoft Rewards points, or using an Xbox Mastercard, to pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6 at no extra cost. The points can be redeemed for gift cards covering the game's price.

With Grand Theft Auto 6's release approaching, many players are balking at its price — $80 for the Standard Edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition, which adds extra vehicles, weapons and side content. But some Xbox users have found a way around paying full price, or anything at all.
Several Reddit users have recounted how they managed to pre-order GTA 6 without spending their own money. One earned the necessary funds through points accumulated on an Xbox Mastercard, while another relied entirely on everyday Microsoft Rewards activities.
Building up Microsoft Rewards points
Roughly 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points equal $1, meaning 100,000 points are needed to cover the cost of the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition via a redeemed gift card. Microsoft offers several ways to earn these points, both through gaming and everyday online activity. On the Xbox mobile app, a Quests section rewards actions like playing on console or PC, using the app itself, and maintaining weekly play streaks.
Game Pass subscribers earn points faster — Premium and PC Only subscribers get double points, while Ultimate subscribers earn four times the usual amount. Points can also be earned without gaming at all, through the Microsoft Rewards dashboard, which offers daily polls, quizzes and rewards for using Bing searches. Setting Bing as a default search engine and using the Bing app can further boost point accumulation over time.
The Xbox Mastercard route is more direct, with purchases at the Microsoft Store, streaming services and food delivery generating the most points, though it's only worth considering for those already willing to open a new credit card, given its limited reward categories. The Microsoft Rewards path, by contrast, carries no financial risk and, with consistent daily use, could add up to a meaningful discount by the time GTA 6 launches in November.
