Latvia's fire and rescue service: no request yet to send responders to Nepal

Latvia's State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) has stated that it is not currently examining the possibility of sending its personnel to Nepal to help deal with the aftermath of a recent disaster or to take part in other response measures.

According to the service, the reason is that no official request for such assistance has been received from Nepal. Without a concrete request from the affected country, VUGD does not begin preparing or planning to deploy staff.

International rescue assistance is typically provided after a country hit by a large-scale incident formally appeals to other states or international organizations for support. Until such a request arrives, VUGD does not consider the situation to require immediate action or readiness of personnel for deployment.

The service did not provide further details on whether or under what circumstances the situation might change should Nepal submit a request for assistance in the future.
