Volkswagen Unveils Electric ID. Polo GTI With 226 Horsepower
Fifty years after the first GTI debuted, Volkswagen has presented a fully electric ID. Polo GTI. It can already be ordered in Germany, with prices starting at 39,995 euros.

Five decades after the first GTI appeared, Volkswagen is extending the badge to electric cars. The new ID. Polo GTI is a fully electric sporty compact.
Design and interior
At the front, the model features a red line spanning its full width, a three-dimensional GTI logo, LED Matrix headlights and a honeycomb grille. The car rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and has pronounced side sills, a split roof spoiler and a black diffuser.
The interior keeps GTI traditions: black and red dominate, with red decorative stitching and the well-known checkered seat pattern. The driver gets a dedicated GTI driving mode, which activates sportier settings and Launch Control. Information is shown on a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch central display.
Technical details
The car is powered by a 166 kW (226 hp) electric motor that takes it to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 175 km/h. A 52 kWh NMC battery supplies the energy, fast charging reaches 105 kW, and charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 24 minutes.
To make the car sporty beyond its looks, Volkswagen has reworked the front MacPherson suspension, tuned the rear suspension more firmly and fitted adaptive DCC dampers along with an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock. These changes are meant to improve traction, handling and steering response.
Equipment and price
The base specification already includes 19-inch wheels, sport seats and extensive GTI equipment. Optional extras include a panoramic glass roof, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with pneumatic massage, a 425-watt Harman Kardon audio system, premium sport tyres and the latest-generation Connected Travel Assist.
The ID. Polo GTI is already available to order in Germany, with prices starting at 39,995 euros.
