Volgograd refinery halts all processing after Ukrainian drone strike
The Volgograd oil refinery has stopped processing crude oil entirely following a Ukrainian drone attack on October 2, Reuters reports, citing sources.
A refinery in Volgograd has ceased all crude oil processing after a Ukrainian drone attack on October 2, according to Reuters, which cited unnamed sources. The agency did not provide further details.
Volgograd Governor Andrey Bocharov spoke of a "massive drone attack on industrial infrastructure" but did not say which facilities had been hit. Eyewitnesses shared photos and videos showing a large fire near the refinery.
Earlier attacks
Reuters noted that Ukrainian drones had already struck the plant on May 29 and July 31.
Importance of the plant
According to the website of its owner, Lukoil, the refinery can handle about 14 million metric tons of crude oil per year. That amounts to roughly 5% of Russia's total refining volume.
The Volgograd facility is thus another Russian refinery to go offline following a Ukrainian drone strike.
