"The only man in that choir": Estonian pensioner convicted of assaulting fellow singer
An Estonian court has found 70-year-old Lidija guilty of physically assaulting 91-year-old choir member Adelheid, whom she grabbed by the hair outside her home in 2023 after a rehearsal. Lidija had no prior criminal record before the incident.
An unexpected act of violence in a small town in central Estonia has now reached the courts. One winter afternoon, 88-year-old Voldemar, as he usually did after choir practice, drove his fellow choir member — 91-year-old Adelheid — home in his black Audi. The two had been doing this for a couple of years, and until that day nobody considered it unusual.
When the car stopped right outside Adelheid's home, Voldemar's partner, 70-year-old Lidija, suddenly appeared. Without hesitation, she climbed into the back seat, tore off Adelheid's hat, grabbed her by the hair and began pulling.
Court ruling
The incident took place in 2023 and had serious consequences: a court has now found Lidija guilty of both physical assault and causing severe bodily harm to Adelheid. According to case materials, Lidija had not received a single criminal conviction in her long life before this incident.
