One-Euro House Program: Not Only in Sicily
Sicily and other countries offer houses for one euro to attract new residents. Latvian Ivars recently purchased such a house in Sicily.

In recent years, several countries have introduced programs that allow purchasing real estate for a symbolic price – even one euro. This practice has become popular, especially in regions where the population is declining and houses are left empty. The goal is to attract new residents who would renovate these buildings and give them a new life.
Italy is one of the most well-known countries implementing such a project. Recently, a Latvian named Ivars bought a house in the old town of Sicily for one euro. The house is two stories and 48 square meters. Ivars says that from the start of paperwork to the beginning of renovations, about a year passed. Now he is a proud owner and plans to restore the property.
However, Italy is not the only country offering these opportunities. Similar initiatives exist in other countries, although the specific list is not mentioned in the source. Such programs are often found in areas with low population densities, where local governments aim to stimulate regional development.
