Wales lose scrum-half Lockwood ahead of USA clash
Wales scrum-half Seren Lockwood will miss Saturday's WXV Global Series match against USA in Cardiff after failing a head injury assessment, with Lleucu George set to return at fly-half.
Wales women's rugby team will be without scrum-half Seren Lockwood for Saturday's second WXV Global Series fixture against USA in Cardiff, after she failed to pass a head injury assessment (HIA). She is now following World Rugby's return to play protocols.
Lockwood was substituted in the first half of Wales' victory over South Africa, a match in which the team scored eight tries. Her unavailability is a setback, as she and Keira Bevan had formed a promising half-back partnership within Wales' newly reshaped backline.
As a result, head coach Sean Lynn will adjust his line-up for the match at Cardiff Arms Park: Lleucu George will return at fly-half, while Bevan will move back to her regular scrum-half position.
Coach's response
Lynn said it is always concerning to see a player forced off the field, but praised the value of having the HIA protocol in place to protect players' welfare. He confirmed Lockwood would not be available this weekend, while expressing enthusiasm about the half-back combination Wales will field against USA.
