Labour Inspectorate finds violations in nearly a third of inspected construction firms this year

Latvia's State Labour Inspectorate (VDI) has released the results of this year's thematic inspections in the construction sector, recording 446 violations in total.

According to the data published by VDI, violations were found in 31% of the inspected companies — meaning that nearly one in three checked construction firms had at least one breach of applicable rules.

Construction is traditionally regarded as one of the sectors subject to heightened scrutiny of labour safety and employment law compliance, given the nature of the work and its associated risks. VDI regularly carries out thematic inspections across various industries to assess how well companies comply with occupational safety and other labour relations requirements.

The published information does not specify which types of violations were most common, but the sheer share of companies found in breach suggests that compliance issues remain widespread in the sector.

Results of such inspections are made public to draw the attention of both the public and industry companies to the need to observe occupational safety and labour law requirements.
