Kaspars Gorkšs put forward for Latvia's State Chancellery director; selection rationale not public

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (United List) is nominating Kaspars Gorkšs, director general of the Employers' Confederation of Latvia, for approval as director of the State Chancellery. The State Chancellery is the institution serving the prime minister, and the competition for the post produced only one selected candidate.

Coalition partners have not yet delivered their final word, so it remains unclear whether the nomination will be backed.

Selection rationale unknown

The public does not know why Gorkšs was judged the best candidate. It has emerged that everything discussed during the selection process is restricted-access information, so details are not publicly available.

Discussion on the programme

What the State Chancellery director should do and which changes public administration needs were discussed on 16 October on the programme "Kas notiek Latvijā?" (What Is Happening in Latvia?). The programme's headline mentions the pillars of Gorkšs's candidacy, inefficient routine in public administration, and how much freedom the prime minister would give the director to act.
