Over 5,700 patients have received state-funded home palliative care in Latvia since 2024

Since state-funded palliative care at the patient's place of residence was introduced in 2024, 5,769 patients had received it by 1 July this year. Nearly 2,500 patients have received state-funded palliative care in hospitals this year.

State-funded palliative care at the patient's place of residence has been available in Latvia since 2024. By 1 July this year, 5,769 patients had received the service. Palliative care is support for people with serious illnesses that are hard to treat. It aims to ease symptoms and improve the patient's daily life.

The figures come from the National Health Service (NVD), the state body that pays for healthcare services from public funds.

Care in hospitals

State-funded palliative care is also provided in hospitals. According to the NVD, nearly 2,500 patients have received it there so far this year.
