Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed the meeting took place, noting that the German side had initiated it. No further details about the content of the discussion were made public.
Background
The meeting followed a separate encounter on September 23, when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Lavrov, also in New York. Following that meeting, Russia's Foreign Ministry said Lavrov had complained to Rubio about Ukrainian strikes on targets inside Russian territory.
Both meetings took place during the UN General Assembly's high-level week, when heads of state and foreign ministers from numerous countries gather in New York.
