Germany probes third possible sabotage attempt on energy sites, suspects radical climate activist

German police are investigating what may be the third attempted sabotage of the country's energy infrastructure. This time a suspicious object was found near an electrical substation close to Düsseldorf, which police say could be an explosive device.

According to media reports, similar devices had earlier been discovered at a substation in Bergheim. German authorities believe a radical climate activist may be behind the attacks. Prior to this, officials and journalists had received letters containing detailed information about the incidents. The author of the letters stated that their goal was to fight the use of fossil fuels.

Suspicious substances and objects found

Herbert Reul, interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, said that several suspicious substances and objects, presumed to be explosive devices, were found in the suspect's apartment. He noted that it is not yet possible to say how many such items were found, as specialists are still examining the findings.

Police are investigating the case as sabotage directed against the constitutional order. Authorities are also examining the possibility that left-wing extremists or a foreign state could be behind the attacks.
