A highly publicized trial in Germany has concluded with a life sentence for a 41-year-old doctor. He was convicted of murdering 15 patients—12 women and three men—between September 2021 and July 2024. The victims ranged in age from 25 to 87.

During the trial, the doctor confessed to killing 12 patients during home visits, claiming he acted to relieve their suffering. He administered a lethal mixture of various medications. Prosecutors also alleged that he set fires in several cases to cover up his crimes.

The court recognized the exceptional severity of guilt, imposing a life sentence without the possibility of early release. Additionally, the doctor received a lifetime ban from practicing medicine. Prosecutors are still investigating 76 other cases where the accused may have committed similar offenses.

This case echoes a 2019 incident in Germany, where a nurse was sentenced to life in prison for killing 87 patients by intentionally causing cardiac arrest.
