Fire at Russia's Ust-Luga Port After Ukrainian Drone Strike Extinguished
A Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at Russia's Baltic oil port of Ust-Luga, which authorities said was extinguished with no injuries. Russia reported intercepting 553 Ukrainian drones overnight, while NATO shot down a drone over Latvia.
A fire broke out on Friday at the Russian Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, a key terminal for oil exports, after a Ukrainian drone attack, according to regional authorities.
Leningrad region governor Alexander Drozdenko said firefighters had extinguished the blaze by mid-morning and confirmed there were no casualties. He did not provide details about the damage caused by the attack.
Earlier, Drozdenko had said air-defense systems destroyed more than 50 drones overnight across the Leningrad region, which surrounds St. Petersburg.
In a separate overnight incident, the governor of the neighboring Tver region reported that falling drone debris damaged an outer wall at a warehouse belonging to the online retailer Wildberries. There were no injuries at the site, which was the latest in a string of attacks targeting commercial logistics facilities.
Russia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted 553 Ukrainian drones across Russia and annexed Crimea between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Separately on Friday, Latvian military officials said NATO fighter jets intercepted and shot down a drone that had entered the Baltic country's airspace. Finland also temporarily restricted movement in parts of the Baltic Sea as a precaution against potential air threats.
